Foot traffic, transit access, and a built-in audience that comes to spend. The Delmar Loop is one of the most walkable retail and entertainment corridors in the St. Louis region.

Why the Loop

A built-in market

The Loop pairs a walkable Main Street with a MetroLink station, a university next door, and a nightlife draw that fills the sidewalks after dark.

Steady foot traffic

  • A continuous one-mile strip that people walk end to end — not a drive-past corridor.
  • Music fans, students, shoppers, and diners keep the sidewalks busy day and night.
  • Neighboring Washington University brings a large, recurring customer base.

Transit at the door

  • The Delmar Loop MetroLink Station sits directly on the strip.
  • Red Line connections reach downtown St. Louis and Lambert Airport.
  • Metered street parking and surface lots serve drive-in customers.

A destination brand

  • The Loop has been recognized as one of the "10 Great Streets in America."
  • Home to the St. Louis Walk of Fame, drawing visitors from across the region.
  • A mix that spans live music, dining, retail, and the arts under one identity.

An established mix

  • Independent shops, restaurants, and venues already anchor the district.
  • A proven customer base for retail, food and beverage, and service businesses.
  • An active business district focused on keeping the strip clean, safe, and busy.

About the Loop

A century of Main Street energy

The Delmar Loop began as a streetcar turnaround in 1887 and grew into a walkable district straddling the St. Louis and University City line. Today it's home to live-music rooms, independent book and record shops, restaurants from around the world, and the St. Louis Walk of Fame. Much of the modern Loop was shaped by local developer Joe Edwards, whose businesses helped anchor the strip and spark its revival.

The district is promoted as a single destination, giving businesses here a shared identity and a steady stream of visitors who come for the whole street — not just one stop.
